If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve probably noticed I can be very critical of Mikasa’s character. I’ve even been accused of not liking her at all, which was true at one point. I won’t deny that. But since I’ve grown to become a much more analytical fan of the series, I’ve also grown to love and care about Mikasa a great deal.
I used to be one of those fans who reduced her character to being love-obsessed and one-dimensional. This is not the way we should be looking at Mikasa. I want to talk a little about why Mikasa is actually a great character. I want to talk about what makes her complex, what makes her realistic, what makes her relatable, and why she deserves so much more credit than she is given by our fandom.
This is an extremely long analysis (I’m so sorry if you’re on mobile! D:). So if you want to read it all in one setting, I recommend making sure you have plenty of time.
